Welcome to the 77th Annual National Exhibition of Photography organised by Southport Photographic Society. We are delighted to announce the re-introduction of our Print Exhibition this year and will be displaying the award winning images at The Atkinson, Lord St, Southport from 2nd to 16th March 2024. We look forward to receiving your Print and PDI entries across six classes and wish you every success with your entries.

Open Exhibition Classes

The exhibition consists of six (6) classes with up to four (4) entries allowed in each Class. There will be a minimum of 60 awards of Medals, Ribbons and Certificates to be won across the classes.

FEES, Print Requirement & Delivery

Fees for the Open Exhibition

Please enter online via our website.
Our method of payment is by PayPal.
Fees are per entrant. Entry fee for the Open Exhibition is £8.00 for the first four (4) entries any
mix, each additional image is £1.50.
Please read our terms and conditions as they have changed from last year.

Print Requirement and Delivery

We will only accept UNMOUNTED prints and they MUST be on A3 paper (420mx297mm) in any
orientation with the image any size. Prints will not be returned and will be destroyed after the
exhibition. The title on the backs of prints must match the titles on the Entry Form, using only
pressure sensitive (small self-adhesive) label to be placed bottom left hand corner. Remember to
print out your entry from PhotoExhib software and enclose with your print package.

Prints should be posted to our Exhibition Administrator to arrive by the 13th January 2024

All print entries that are awarded the following awards:
PAGB Gold Medal, PAGB Silver Medal, PAGB Bronze Medal, Selectors’ Medals, PAGB Ribbons, BPE Ribbons and The Margaret Suddaby Memorial Trophy will be mounted by Southport Photographic Society and displayed at a local venue.

Exhibition Venues

The opening ceremony will be held at:

Monday 4th March 2024 Doors Open 7.15pm for prompt start at 7.45pm

Please note that due to size of entry we may require to show the classes over two evenings and
the second evening will be via zoom Wednesday 6th March, 2024 zoom opens 7.30pm for prompt
start at 7.45pm

Projection of the accepted images will be made available at selected venues. To be advised.

Prints in each class awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze Medals, Selectors’ Medals, PAGB Ribbons and
BPE Ribbons will be displayed at:

The exhibition opens on the 2nd March 2024 and will be open until 16th March 2024. The times
of opening for The Atkinson Gallery should be checked on their website at www.theatkinson.co.uk

 

Awards - Open

The Society will award PAGB Medals, PAGB Ribbons, BPE Ribbons, SPS Selectors’ Medals and SPS Certificates in each class as follows:

• First Place                                                     PAGB Gold Medal

• Second Place                                                PAGB Silver Medal

• Third Place                                                   PAGB Bronze Medal

• There are three SPS Selector Medals

• Four PAGB Ribbons, Four BPE Ribbons and SPS Certificates will be awarded at the Selectors’ discretion

There will be a minimum of 60 Awards.

The Margaret Suddaby Memorial Trophy

Awarded for the highest aggregate score of their acceptances by any one entrant in the National Open Exhibition across Open Colour, Open Monochrome and Nature. Open to entrants who are not members of Southport Photographic Society.

 Trophies will be engraved with the winner’s name and presented at the exhibition opening ceremony. However The Margaret Suddaby Memorial Trophy awarded to a non-Southport Photographic Society member will be retained by the Society after the opening ceremony unless special arrangements are made. SPS Members Exhibition

• This section of the Exhibition is for SPS members only. There is no entry fee and entry is online

• Please enter name using upper and lower case letters, ensure honours are in capital letters.

• SPS members may enter up to three (3) prints and three (3) digital images.

• The following images are not eligible for this Members’ Exhibition:
a) Images accepted in any section of a previous Open or Members’ Exhibition held by the
Society. 
b) Images entered in any section of the concurrent Open Exhibition. (Note: Images accepted
for a previous Members’ Exhibition may be entered in the Open Exhibition.)

• You must own the copyright of all images entered.

• Digital images, and those digital images that accompany prints can be either landscape or
portrait and image size: Maximum 1600 pixels horizontal and/or 1200 pixels vertical. Images
must be in JPEG format with the preferred Colour Space sRGB and should not exceed 2MB as
they will be rejected by our PhotoExhib software.

• Image Title should be as you wish it to appear on projection and in the catalogue, avoid titles
in all upper case letters, avoid symbols, hyphens and underlining since our PhotoExhib software
may reject them.

• Prints to be mounted on card. Mounts must be 50cm x 40cm. Overall thickness must not
exceed 4mm. The backing mount must be virtually the same size as the front mount. The title
on the backs of prints must match the titles on the Entry Form, using only pressure sensitive
(small self-adhesive) label to be placed bottom left hand corner. A print out of your entry from
our PhotoExhib software should be enclosed with your print package.

• Photographs should be the original work of the creator, so entirely generative images, or
images with material elements entirely generated by AI will not be permitted. SPS will trust in
the integrity of our members however in certain circumstances may request further evidence in
the form of RAW files or EXIF data, accepting that such evidence may itself not be definitive.

• Prints may be handed in at Monday evening meetings. Last print acceptance date Monday
15th January, 2024.

Results Cards, Catalogues and Reproduction

Results Cards and Catalogues

Results will be notified by email.

The Exhibition Catalogue will be available for downloading online and also in a printed version which will be posted to entrants. A large number of previous entrants have expressed their wish to not receive a hard copy. With this in mind we have incorporated into the registration process a tick box to allow entrants to opt-out of receiving a hard copy. If you would prefer to not have a hard copy of the Exhibition Catalogue, please choose this option at registration.

Reproduction

Whilst copyright rests with the author, The Society reserves the right to use any entry, without fee for publication and/or display in any media related to the exhibition. The submission of an entry implies acceptance of the above conditions. 

Data Privacy, Payments, Disclosure

Data Privacy

The Southport Photographic Society will hold the personal information provided by you to manage your entries and provide information to you about future events.

The Society does not pass this information to any third parties. Please contact the Exhibition Coordinator if you do not want this information to be retained after the end of the competition.

  • Administer the website.
  • Manage your entries and provide information to you about future events.
